Imprecise excision of the progenitor insertion. Internal sequences of the insertion have been removed, leaving the P-element ends and flanking genomic sequence intact.
100% of homozygous pupae show a marked reduction of muscle histolysis in the abdomen, with debris often persisting till the pharate stage. The breakdown of the dorsal external oblique muscles is incomplete at the onset of head eversion. As a result, the anterior part of the abdomen remains attached to the epidermis and muscle contractions propel the abdomen forwards instead of causing it to retract to the posterior end of the puparium as in wild type. This creates a gap in the puparium and limits space for the thorax and head. The thorax is shifted anteriorly in 41% of mutants. 51% of mutant animals reach the pharate adult stage. The temporary dorsal internal oblique muscles of the abdomen are either absent or show morphological defects in 97% of these pharate adults.
