Detailed Description
Statement

The pseudopupil is disorganised in mosaic animals containing homozygous eyes (generated using eyFLP). The compound eye is roughened and slightly reduced in size compared to wild type. Photoreceptors within the homozygous eyes show a progressive retinal degeneration phenotype, with the R7 photoreceptor cell being less affected than the R1-R6 cells. The retinal degeneration is not light-dependent.

The electroretinogram of 4 hour old mosaic flies containing homozygous eyes has a small depolarisation and a small recovery phase compared to wild type.

The progression of retinal degeneration seen in mosaic animals containing homozygous Dbp21E21 eyes is not altered if the flies are also homozygous for ninaE17.
