      Dcp-12 homozygozity does not provide protection against (injury-induced) Wallerian degeneration of third instar larval motoneurons.

      Engulfment of nurse cells by follicle cells is largely inhibited in homozygous Dcp-12 mutant degenerating egg chambers in starved flies. Most of the follicle cells in these "undead" egg chambers (egg chambers in which the nurse cell nuclei fail to condense and the follicle cells disappear) fail to enlarge and display thinning out of the membranes. 30% of undead egg chambers show some follicle cell enlargement.
