UASt regulatory sequences drive expression of an N-terminally deleted form of the fusion protein associated with the mouse 'Wld[S]' mutation. The 'Wld[S]' fusion protein is composed of the N-terminal 70 amino acids of Mmus\Ube4b, a unique 18 amino acid domain generated during the fusion event and the full-length sequence of Mmus\Nmnat1. In this transgene, the N-terminal 16 residues of Mmus\Ube4b have been deleted from the fusion protein sequence.
Expression of Mmus\wldS-ΔN16.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Or22a.8197 has a protective effect on olfactory receptor neurons following axotomy: 25% and 35% of olfactory receptor neuron axons have undergone Wallerian degeneration at 10 and 20 days after injury respectively.
