A fragment of W cDNA is cloned downstream of a GMR promoter sequence. This cassette is cloned downstream of a 9-mer of nucleotides 980-1281 (containing a DNase I hyper-sensitive site) of roX1 cDNA c3.

      Flies carrying autosomal insertions of W(roX1-DHS)9.GMR display a range of eye sizes, with male eyes in most cases slightly smaller than female eyes. Female W(roX1-DHS)9.GMR eye colour is generally lighter than males, and in some cases indistinguishable from white. Additionally, there is some variegation in pigmentation in some lines (P{(roX1.DHS)9-GMR-hid.L}C20, P{(roX1.DHS)9-GMR-hid.L}C21).
