Thermal activation of TrpA1Scer\UAS.att.cvPa in fru neurons under the control of Scer\GAL4fru.P1.D induces courtship singing in isolated flies, often together with other courtship behaviours such as abdominal bending. These songs exhibit somewhat longer interpulse intervals than normal and are also found in females, although a higher temperature (above 28.5[o]C compared to 26[o]C in males) is required for females to sing. The female pulse songs exhibit even greater interpulse intervals and are more often polycyclic. Thermally-activated males generally extend only one wing, as in natural songs, whereas females often extend both wings simultaneously, and to a lesser degree.
