A 2,248 bp deletion resulting from the imprecise excision of P{lacW}Dyrk2k11509, which deletes 1,170 bp upstream and 1,078 bp downstream of the Dyrk2 transcription start site. 2L:14234122 (R5 coordinates) was used as the TSS based on the statement that the P{lacW}Dyrk2k11509 insertion site is 540 bp downstream of the TSS.

Homozygous viable with no obvious visible adult phenotype.

Compared to wild type, Dyrk21w17 animals exhibit a significant impairment in benzaldehyde olfactory avoidance behaviour (whereas locomotor reactivity is normal).

Electroretinograms from Dyrk21w17 flies show significantly reduced photoreceptor depolarisation in response to light stimulation compared to wild type flies.

Homozygous mutant pupal retinas do not display an overt phenotype, though the latticed array of cells is not as regular as in wild type.
