Expression of Dyrk2WT.Scer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG using Scer\GAL4ey.PH, Scer\GAL4elav-C155, Scer\GAL4oc.1.6 or Scer\GAL4sv.PJ has no effect on adult eye patterning.

Expression of Dyrk2WT.Scer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG using Scer\GAL4GMR.PF produces rough eyes with extra and/or misplaced interommatidial bristles. Flies with two copies of Dyrk2WT.Scer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG show a more severe phenotype, with eyes being smaller than controls, individual ommatidia being difficult to discern, and a pronounced increase in bristle formation. A similar, but less severe, phenotype is observed when Scer\GAL4hs.2sev is used as the driver.

Scer\GAL4GMR.PF Dyrk2KD.Scer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG pupal retinas show an obvious disruption in patterning, with an increase and/or misplacement of secondary, tertiary and interommatidial bristle cells. Although cone cell number remains unchanged, slight ommatidial rotation defects are observed. The presence of two copies of Dyrk2WT.Scer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG results in a more severe disruption in patterning, with numerous secondary, tertiary and bristle cells separating each ommatidium. Cone cell patterns are also disturbed, and up to 5 cone cells are present in an individual ommatidium.
