udd1/uddnull and udd0683-G4/uddnull ovaries are small. udd1/uddnull ovaries contain egg chambers only up to stages 4-5 of oogenesis. udd0683-G4/uddnull ovaries contain egg chambers up to stages 11 of oogenesis, which show apoptotic chromatin condensation; nucleoli in stage 7 nurse cells are less branched.

Over time uddnull mutant germline stem cell clones induced in female flies become less proliferative and are eventually lost from the cap cell niche.
