Deletion of most of the subdued coding region and part of CG34138 resulting from FLP-catalyzed recombination using the FRT-containing transposons PBac{RB}subduede02779 and P{XP}subduedd03361.
Upon being fed the Db11 strain of the bacterium Serratia marcescens, subduedKO flies show significantly higher lethality compared to wild type controls. Mutant flies do not show prominent structural abnormalities in the alimentary canal. Significantly higher titres of bacteria are isolated from infected mutant flies (both whole flies and isolated guts) compared to controls - this is not due to increased feeding by the mutants as the mutants feed slightly, but significantly, less than controls.
