Flies expressing AcerdsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of mesodermal- and cardial-specific Scer\GAL4twi.PG and Scer\GAL4how-24B exhibit significantly enlarged diastolic and systolic chamber dimensions with markedly impaired systolic function. These flies also exhibit a steep age-related decline in heart rate, with a heart rate consistently slower than in wild-type. Down-regulation of Acer impairs the contractile properties of the heart.
Down-regulation of Acer, through expression of AcerdsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4twi.PG and Scer\GAL4how-24B increases the likelihood of heart failure.
