LhrKO flies are almost fully viable (22.25% homozygotes are recovered compared to the expected 25% in crosses between heterozygotes).

Homozygous LhrKO females have significantly reduced fertility, particularly at higher temperatures. At 27[o]C, 1-5 old homozygotes have severely reduced fertility (assayed by mean number of progeny per female) and they later become sterile. The hatching rate of eggs laid by homozygous females is low and declines as the females age.

LhrKO/Df(2R)BSC44 females have normal fertility at 1-5 days of age at 27[o]C, but have severely reduced fertility at 6-9 days of age, with the fertility declining even further in older females.

Crosses of homozygous LhrKO D. melanogaster females crossed to D. mauritiana males at 18[o]C give rise to 10.6% rescue of live hybrid males.
