GM130Δ23 third instar larval adipocytes do not show defects in the normal perinuclear distribution of microtubules.
The architecture of somal Golgi in larval dendritic arborization neurons is dramatically perturbed in GM130Δ23 mutants. The ring-shaped Golgi units are randomly detected in mutant neurons. Instead, many Golgi compartments of irregular shape showing defects in compartmental organisation are present. GM130Δ23 mutants show decreased percentage of multi-compartment Golgi distal dendrites, but do not show any difference in proximal dendrites between control and mutant neurons.
In GM130Δ23 mutant neurons, microtubule growth initiation events are reduced in distal dendrites. Microtubule growth initiation at dendritic branch points is dramatically suppressed by GM130Δ23.
The total number of dendritic branch points as well as the number of higher-order branches (fourth order and up) is significantly reduced in GM130Δ23 mutant class III da neurons.
