UAS regulatory sequences drive expression of a mutant form of Hsap\TARDBP containing the familial-ALS linked mutation M337V and lacking the NLS sequence (six basic amino acids (K82A, R83A, K84A, K95A, K97A, R98A) have been replaced with alanine).

      The eyes of flies expressing Hsap\TARDBPNLSmut.M337V.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU exhibit more severe pigment loss compared with wild type Hsap\TARDBP (Hsap\TARDBPScer\UAS.cIa), occasionally with retinal collapse and necrotic patches. The flies show a marked vacuolar degeneration of the retina.
