The hid open reading frame has been inserted into a founder azot knockout line (azotKO), resulting in expression of hid under the control of azot regulatory sequences. A single loxP site is present downstream of the hid open reading frame.

      In contrast to flies containing an azot knock-out allele alone (azotKO), the wings of flies lacking azot but expressing hid under the endogenous azot promoter (represented by the alleles hidazot and azotKO.hid) do not exhibit any defects, either with or without exposure to radiation. The lifespan of these flies is also increased compared to azotKO flies.
