      The eyes of upd3x21c mutant flies are reduced in size compared to controls. The number of ommatidia is reduced, but most remaining facets appear normal. Missing ommatidia appear to be replaced by head cuticle, resulting in increased bare cuticle between the bristles surrounding the eye and the ommatidia.

      upd3x21c mutant flies display outstretched wings.
