UAS regulatory sequences drive expression of Ctr1C sequences corresponding to Ctr1C-PA (FBpp0085111).
Strong ubiquitous expression of Ctr1CScer\UAS.cSa under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PU is lethal when the flies are raised on normal food. such flies can be rescued by growing them on food supplemented with the copper chelator BCS.
Strong, eye-specific expression of Ctr1CScer\UAS.cSa (through the P{UAS-Ctr1C.S}C34 insertion) under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF leads to severely disrupted eye morphology (the rigid quasi-crystalline pattern of the ommatidia is lost and ommatidia are fused, leading to an uneven eye surface; in addition, overall eye shape is changed) when raised on normal food. This rough eye phenotype can be fully rescued by the addition of the copper chelator BCS. A weaker transgene insertion (P{UAS-Ctr1C.S}D22) does not alter eye morphology on normal food but causes a strong rough eye phenotype on food containing elevated levels of copper.
Scer\GAL4Tub.PU/Ctr1CUAS.cSa is a suppressor of lethal phenotype of Ctr1A25
Expression of Ctr1CScer\UAS.cSa under the control of Scer\GAL4tub.PU can fully suppress the lethality found in Ctr1A25 mutants.
