        MESR4LA00390 expression in larvae via Scer\GAL4fat or Scer\GAL4ppl.PP results in a 'floating phenotype' in a buoyancy assay, reflecting an increase in free fatty acids in these animals. Lipid droplets in Scer\GAL4ppl.PP MESR4LA00390 fat bodies are smaller than controls, and the total volume of these droplets is significantly reduced. (The fat bodies themselves appear normal and have a similar number of fat cells as controls.) Scer\GAL4ppl.PP MESR4LA00390 larvae show increased food intake compared to controls.
