Description

Deletion of part of mod(mdg4), removing the transcription start site, four exons which are common to all isoforms and eight other downstream exons. Generated by FLP-mediated recombination between FRT sites present in the P{RS5}mod(mdg4)5-HA-1224 and P{RS3}mod(mdg4)CB-6686-3 insertions. A residual element consisting of the 5' P-element end and the 3' part of the w gene from the P{RS5} element and the 5' P-element end from the P{RS3} element are present.

mod(mdg4)m9/mod(mdg4)neo129 have 75% early pupal (P1-4) lethality, and 25% late pupa to pharate adult lethality (stage 12-15) and pharate adults show homeotic transformations (abdominal segments A6-8): in males s6 (sternite of the sixth segment) has 3-7 (average 5) bristles, t7 (tergite of the seventh segment) is enlarged and bears several bristles; in females s7 bears 9-11 bristles and occasionally 3 large bristles instead of 2, bristles on s7 occasionally lose orientation, and t8 occasionally bears 1-2 bristles.

mod(mdg4)m9/mod(mdg4)GS23019 have pharate adult lethality and homeotic transformations (A6-8): in males s6 has 3-5 bristles, t7 is enlarged and bears several bristles; in females s7 bears 7-14 (average 9.5) bristles and often 3 large bristles instead of 2, and t8 occasionally bears a couple of small bristles.

CTCFy+1 mod(mdg4)neo129 / CTCFEY15833 mod(mdg4)m9 show early pupal lethality (stage P1-4).

Though Cp190P1/Cp1903 or mod(mdg4)m9/mod(mdg4)GS23019 flies die as pharate adults with fully formed cuticles, Cp190P1 mod(mdg4)m9/Cp1903 mod(mdg4)GS23019 double mutant flies die as pupae (P5-7).

CTCFy+1 mod(mdg4)GS23019 / CTCFEY15833 mod(mdg4)m9 show early pupal lethality (stage P1-4), with rare escapers that die at pharate adult stage and show strong homeotic transformations (A6-8): in males genitalia is rotated by 180[o], s6 has 4-11 (average 9) bristles, display a small cuticle structure with 1-2 bristles interpreted as s7, t7 is well developed, and t8 is well separated from t9 and bears rows of large bristles; in females phenotypes are as in CTCFy+1/CTCFEY15833 but t8 always has rows of large bristles.
