Inferred boundaries of 43.1 kb deletion that removes all of exon 2 and most of exon 3 of eIF4EHP, created using PBac{RB}eIF4EHPe01165 and PBac{RB}eIF4EHPe03164. The deletion also removes the nested Syx1A gene.
4EHPΔ/4EHPΔ (using Df(3R)4EHPΔ along with a transgene to restore wild type Syx1A function) larvae exhibit extreme developmental delay: 5 days after egg deposition, mutant larvae are significantly smaller than heterozygous siblings and show mouth hook morphology characteristic of second instar larvae - without increasing in size, they die 2-3 days later.
