G to A nucleotide change at the second or third position of the Trp codon leads to a nonsense mutation (exact site of mutation unspecified). Site of nucleotide substitution in mutant inferred by FlyBase based on reported amino acid change.
sona13 homozygous mutants exhibit lethality throughout larval and pupal stages although rare escapers reach adulthood at a very low frequency (<1%) and these display various developmental defects: missing or malformed branches in their aristae, disoriented interommatidial bristles in the dorsal eye, crumpled and smaller wings with missing wing margin bristles, they often have kinks in the femur and occasionally also lack the tarsal claw.
sona13/sona47 as well as sona13/sona18 heterozygous adults have disoriented interommatidial bristles especially in the dorsal eye.
