      Flies expressing trpD621G in the trp9;trpl302 double mutant background show significant changes in their photoreceptor ionic selectivity profile (decreased permeability for Ca[2+] and Mg[2+] in particular) and much slower kinetics of the light response as well as decreased single channel conductance, altered rectification characteristics and alleviated channel block by Mg[2+] and ruthenium red of the mutated ion channel compared to controls.
