The mCherry coding sequence (including a stop codon at the C-terminal end) has been introduced into the Balat locus, replacing an N-terminal portion of the Balat coding sequence. This results in mCherry being expressed under the control of native Balat regulatory sequences. A single loxP site is present upstream of the mCherry sequence.
Reporter expression is observed predominantly in the retinal pigment cells in the eye.
BalatmCherry homozygosity virtually abolishes the normal electroretinogram ON and OFF transients upon light stimulation, as compared to controls.
