A 57.1kb deletion of nAChRalpha1 was created by ends-out targeting. Deletion endpoints determined from reported sequences.
nAChRα1KO mutant males consistently take longer to initiate both courtship and copulation compared to wild-type males, regardless of the genotype of the female partner (mutant or wild-type); mutant females also take longer to initiate copulation with wild-type males compared to wild-type females. nAChRα1KO mutant adults show a decrease in sleep time and are hyperactive despite a lower average speed, as compared to controls; mutants show a decrease in locomotor speed during the 3-12h period (day-time) and a converse increase in activity during the 15-24h period (night-time), as compared to controls.
nAChRα1KO is partially rescued by Scer\GAL4elav-C155/nAChRα1UAS.cSa
