Comment:

23bp deletion that removes sequences from the 8th intron and the 8th coding exon of omd. This results in a frameshift that produces a premature stop codon.

omd348 type I neuroblast clones in the larval brain contain the same single neuroblast per clone as controls, but the number of ganglion mother cells is severely decreased and there are small ectopic Dpn-positive, Ase-negative daughter cells of unknown cell identity and origin at the vicinity of GMCs; these neuroblasts show a severe decrease in mitotic index (phospho-H3 staining).

omd348 type II neuroblast clones in the larval brain contain many supernumerary neuroblast-like cells (including Dpn-positive, Ase-negative, Worniu-positive neuroblast-like cells), and significantly fewer neurons and intermediate neural progenitor-like cells (both Dpn-negative, PntP1-positive INPs and Dpn-negative, Erm-positive INPs), as compared to controls.

Larval neuroblasts do not show any obvious defects in asymmetric cell division (i.e. in angle of division) or in cell polarity (i.e. in Baz, Par6, aPKC, Pins, Mira or Numb asymmetric protein localization).
