      EMC5G2 whole-eye clones show some degeneration: whereas 1- and 5-days old adults show intact rhabdomeres and photoreceptor cells, 35-days old flies exhibit retinal degeneration with prominent vacuoles and obvious rhabdomere loss. Electroretinograms show lower response amplitude to orange light stimuli than controls, and do not show the expected prolonged depolarization afterpotential to blue light stimuli normally observed in controls.
