Description
Description
Ribosomes are large ribonucleic acid-protein complexes that translate mRNA into polypeptide chains. Ribosomes are formed from a small subunit and a large subunit. (Adapted from FBrf0205398).
Notes on Group

The RIBOSOMAL COMPONENTS gene group includes the two mitochondrial rRNAs but do not list cytoplasmic rRNAs as these are multicopy genes organised in tandem arrays (FBrf0202637). The cytoplasmic rRNA genes can be found using SO:0002360 and associated with these records: 2SrRNA, 5SrRNA, 5.8SrRNA, 18SrRNA and 28SrRNA.
