Description
Description
Ubiquitin E2 Enzyme Variants (UEVs) contain ubiquitin-conjugating (UBC)-like domains that lack the catalytic cysteine which forms a covalent intermediate with ubiquitin. UEVs can act as ubiquitin binding modules, and may regulate ubiquitination or recruit ubiquitinated proteins. (Adapted from FBrf0222885)
Notes on Group

Drosophila Kua from FBrf0225318 has not been included as it does not contain a 'Ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme' domain. The human Kua (HGNC:TMEM189) may be expressed as a fusion with a UEV domain but this is probably restricted to primates (PMID:11076860 and PMID:20420830).

UEV gene products are all found in other complexes: TSG101 is in the ESCRT-I complex (gene group:ESCRT-I COMPLEX). morgue also has a F box domain (gene group: F-BOX PROTEINS) and is part of a SCF ligase complex. Uev1A is a UBC13-UEV1A ubiquitin conjugating complex component.

peo has an intronless paralog CG16894 (FBrf0228809).
