E3 (ubiquitin) ligases interact with both ubiquitin-E2 (ubiquitin-conjugating) enzymes and the target protein, transferring the ubiquitin from the E2 to the substrate. Inhibitor of APoptosis (IAP) ubiquitin ligases are defined by the presence of one or more BIR (baculoviral IAP repeat) and a UBA (ubiquitin (Ub)-associated domain) domain that binds polyubiquitin and a RING finger domain. Notes on Group
The IAP domain is also found in other proteins (see INHIBITOR OF APOPTOSIS gene group).
