Description
The histone H3K4 methyltransferase, COMPASS (Complex of proteins associated with Set 1) was first characterized in yeast. In mammals there are at least six SET1-related proteins that form COMPASS-like complexes and in Drosophila there are three. Histone H3 K4 methylation is associated with transcriptionally active regions of the genome. (Adapted from FBrf0216343).
