Voltage-gated sodium (NaV) channels allow the inward movement of Na+ ions in response to a change in membrane potential. A variable number of β subunits assemble with α subunit homotetrameric channel. β subunits may have a number of functions, including regulating channel assembly and gating. Notes on Group
In D.mel, the TipE locus (on chromosome 3L) encodes four of the five voltage-gated sodium channel β subunits (FBrf0217002).
