Description

Zinc finger C2H2 transcription factors are sequence-specific DNA binding proteins that regulate transcription. They possess DNA-binding domains that are formed from repeated Cys₂His₂ zinc finger motifs. (Adapted from PMID:1835093, FBrf0220103 and FBrf0155739).

The C2H2 ZINC FINGER TRANSCRIPTION FACTORS gene group is a collection of genes encoding proteins containing Cys₂His₂ zinc finger motifs. This domain is most frequently associated with DNA binding, but in some cases this domain has been shown to mediate RNA and/or protein interactions. (PMID:15718139 and PMID:18286240).

Note that within this group, a subclass of C₂H₂ zinc finger transcription factors are found only in arthropods, its representatives contain a specific domain called ZAD (Zinc finger associated domain) thought to mediate protein-protein interactions (FBrf0220103, FBrf0155739). This corresponds to the InterPro domain Zinc finger, AD-type (IPR012934).
