Description
Description
Ferroxidases are a group of oxidoreductases that catalyze the oxidation of ferrous (Fe+2) iron to ferric (Fe+3) iron.
Notes on Group

Of the four genes encoding multicopper oxidases (which are candidate ferroxidases): stw encodes a laccase and is not included here; Mco1 and Mco3 have proven/predicted ferroxidase activity and are included here; Mco4 has not yet been characterized but is also included here. Of the 3 genes encoding ferritin subunits: heavy chain homologs (Fer1HCH and Fer3HCH) have ferroxidase activity, whereas light chain homologs (Fer2LCH) do not. (Reviewed in FBrf0222822.)
