Description
Ribonuclease P (RNase P) is an essential endonuclease responsible for catalyzing 5' end maturation in precursor transfer RNAs (tRNAs). Two types of RNase P enzymes exist: (1) RNA-dependent enzymes (ribozymes), which comprise one conserved catalytic RNA subunit and a variable number of protein subunits, are localized to the nucleus, and are found in all three domains of life; and (2) protein-only enzymes, which comprise 3 protein subunits, are localized to mitochondria, and are found only in eukaryotes.
