Translocases catalyse the active movement of ions or molecules across membranes or their separation within membranes. The driving force for the translocation is provided by the hydrolysis of nucleoside triphosphates (typically ATP), an oxidoreductase reaction, diphosphate (pyrophosphate) hydrolysis or decarboxylation.
