The Protein Kinase C (PKC) family are serine/threonine kinases regulated by auto-inhibition through a pseudosubstrate site located in the regulatory domain. Unlike other members of the PKC family, atypical PKC (aPKC) subfamily are insensitive to diacylglycerol and Ca[2+] and are activated by protein-protein interactions.
