The succinate-CoA ligase (ADP/ATP) complex is a mitochondrial enzyme that catalyzes the reversible conversion of succinyl-CoA to succinate in the only step of the tricarboxylic acid cycle coupled with substrate-level phosphorylation of ADP. In eukaryotes, the functional enzyme is a heterodimeric complex composed of a single alpha subunit (that is shared with the GTP-forming complex) and a beta subunit that determines the ADP substrate specificity.
