Description
Description
The synthesis of the nucleotide-sugar UDP-glucuronate (UDP-GlcA) occurs in the cytosol and is produced from UDP-glucose. UDP-GlcA is then translocated into the Golgi apparatus via the frc transporter where it is used as a precursor for the biosynthesis of glycosaminoglycans and UDP-xylose. In D. melanogaster, UDP-GlcA is not involved in glucuronidation, a detoxification process of toxic metabolites that occurs in mammals. (Adapted from PMID:32749901.)
