Description
Description
The glycerophosphate shuttle is composed of one cytosolic and one inner mitochondrial membrane enzyme. It is used to transport reducing equivalents from the cytosol to the mitochondrion, since cytosolic NADH cannot cross the inner mitochondrial membrane directly. The shuttle regenerates cytosolic NAD(+) to sustain cytosolic oxidative pathways such as glycolysis and provides reducing equivalents in the form of FADH2 to the electron transport chain to produce ATP. Notes

Gpdh2 and Gpdh3 are paralogs of Gpdh1 and are specifically expressed in testis. As there is no functional information, Gpdh2 and Gpdh3 are not included in the gene list. Gpo2 and Gpo3 are paralogs of Gpo1 and are specifically expressed in testis. As there is no functional information, Gpo2 and Gpo3 are not included in the gene list. Porin2, CG17139 and CG17140 are paralogs of porin and are specifically expressed in testis. As there is no functional information, Porin2, CG17139 and CG17140 are not included in the gene list.
