Description
Description
Pyrroline-5-carboxylate dehydrogenases catalyze the irreversible oxidation of glutamate-gamma-semialdehyde to glutamate in the mitochondrial matrix. This is the second step of the proline degradation pathway. These enzymes can also oxidize other 1-pyrrolines. (Adapted from FBrf0257593.)
Notes on Group

CG6661 is a testis-enriched P5CDh paralog, but the encoded protein lacks conserved residues in the active site and NAD+ binding site. It is therefore classed as a pseudoenzyme and excluded from this group.
