Description
Description
N-glycan diversification occurs in the Golgi where the GlcNAc(1)Man(3)GlcNAc(2) intermediate can be further modified to produce complex and hybrid N-glycans. These modifications can include the mono- or di- fucosylation of the first core GlcNAc, the addition of GlcNAc to terminal mannose, or GlcNAc extension with Gal or GalNAc, which can be capped with alpha 2,6-linked sialic acid or glucuronic acid. Unlike in mammals, complex and hybrid N-glycans constitute only a small fraction of N-glycans in D. melanogaster, with sialylated complex N-glycans found predominantly in the nervous system. Notes

FucTB, FucTC and FucTD are paralogs of FucTA. FucTB and FucTC lack core alpha1,3-fucosyltransferase activity and are not included in the gene list. FucTD is specifically expressed in testis and lacks functional information, therefore FucTD is not included in the gene list. GlcAT-I is a paralog of GlcAT-P and GlcAT-S. As GlcAT-I is not involved in N-glycan processing, GlcAT-I is not included in the gene list. CG30036 and CG30037 are paralogs of GalT1 and are specifically expressed in testis. As there is no functional information, CG30036 and CG30037 are not included in the gene list. Mgat3, Mgat4a and Mgat4b are not included in the gene list as they are barely expressed and functional information is lacking.
