Description
Description
L-aspartate and L-asparagine are non-essential amino-acids. L-aspartate can be produced from L-glutamate as part of the malate-aspartate shuttle. Besides its role in protein synthesis, L-aspartate is a precursor for beta-alanine and is involved in purine biosynthesis and L-arginine metabolism. L-asparagine can be synthesized from L-aspartate in the cytosol by AsnS and is used for protein synthesis. (Adapted from FBrf0262112.)
Notes

CG7860, CG6428 and CG8526 are predicted to have asparaginase activity. However, it is not known if this is their physiological activity in D. melanogaster. ASRGL1, the human homolog of CG7860 is an isoaspartyl peptidase and ASPG, the homolog of CG6428 and CG8526 is a lysophospholipase. As there is no functional information, CG7860, CG6428 and CG8526 are not included in the gene list.
