Description
Description
Polyamine catabolism, also known as polyamine back-conversion, involves the cytosolic acetylation and subsequent peroxisomal oxidation of spermidine and spermine to putrescine and spermidine, respectively. In addition, spermine can be directly oxidized to spermidine. (Adapted from PMID:37018845.)
Notes

CG5653, CG6034, CG7460 are paralogs of CG7737. As there is no functional information, CG5653, CG6034, CG7460 are not included in the gene list. The mechanism to import acetyl-spermidine and acetyl-spermine into the peroxisome has not yet been characterized. In bacteria, plants and mammals, putrescine can be converted to the neurotransmitter GABA; however, there is no evidence that this pathway occurs in D. melanogaster.
