Several amino acids serve as precursors for other metabolites, including glutathione, polyamines, beta-alanine, taurine, hypotaurine, phospho-L-arginine, carnitine, neurotransmitters, and pigments for the cuticle and eye.
Notes
In D. melanogaster, amino acid-derived metabolites such as carnosine, agmatine, and creatine are not produced, and NAD(+) is not synthesized from L-tryptophan.
