Acsf3 is a putative mitochondrial malonyl-CoA synthetase that can provide malonyl-CoA use by beg in the initial step of fatty acid biosynthesis. However, as Acsf3 is specifically expressed in testis, it is not included in the gene list. Unlike humans that have separate genes for cytosolic (ACACA) and mitochondrial (ACACB) acetyl-CoA carboxylase synthetases, D. melanogaster has only one gene, Acc. It is likely that one of its 3 isoforms might be localized to the mitochondrion. In Dmel, 3-oxoacyl-[acyl-carrier-protein] reductase activity is carried out by a single enzyme CG3603, similarly to S. cerevisiae (OAR1) and E. coli (FabG). In humans, this activity is carried out by the KAR complex composed of HSD17B8 and CBR4). The gene coding for 3-hydroxyacyl-[acyl-carrier-protein] dehydratase is not known.
