Description
Description
Lipid metabolism encompasses all pathways involved in the formation, breakdown, and interconversion of lipids and occurs across all cellular compartments. Lipids are used as energy storage, serve as fuel and signalling molecules, and are the main components of cell membranes. In D. melanogaster, lipids include ketone bodies, fatty acids, triacylglycerols, phospholipids, sphingolipids and sterols. (Adapted from PMID:34470787 and FBrf0220541.)
