Both the leucine zipper and PHD domains are necessary for Alh oligomerization, but isolated PHD and leucine zipper constructs bind only weakly. The isolated leucine zipper domain can bind full length Alh, but the isolate leucine zipper cannot homodimerize, ruling out oligomerization via leucine zipper homophilic interactions.
