Subject: Curation of 36th Ann. Dros. Conf. abstract Dear Dr. Hacohen, I am a curator of FlyBase at the Cambridge, England, site working with Prof. M. Ashburner. I shall be curating the abstracts from the 36th Ann. Dros. Res. Conf. Your abstract, 23A, discusses two new genes sprouty and hypersprouty. In your abstract you do not assign symbols for these genes - have you decided upon the symbols yet? Do you know the cytological or genetic location of these genes or the function of the gene product? As these are new genes this information will be very useful to users of FlyBase. Any information you can give me will be greatly appreciated and will be curated as a personal communication. Many thanks, Eleanor Whitfield. Subject: Re: Curation of 36th Ann. Dros. Conf. abstract Hi Eleanor, sprouty (sty) is at 63D1,2 hypersprouty (hty) is at 61D1,2 Homozygous mutant embryos have twice the number of secondary branches in the tracheal system. I don't yet know the molecular functions of the two genes. Thanks for putting it all in Flybase. It's extremely useful for all us in the fly community. Nir Hacohen
