Subject: ADRC: 171C
Dear Henri-Marc,
I am writing in connection with your abstract for the upcoming Washington
DC ADRC:
'poils aux pattes (hairy legs), an evolutionarily conserved modifier of
proboscipedia homeotic cell identity function'
You discuss, but do not name, alleles of pap. Do you have symbols for
these alleles? Also, do you have a map location for this
gene? It is nice if we can keep as many gene records as possible anchored
to the map.
Thank you for your help,
with best wishes,
Rachel.
Subject: your enquiry to Henri Bourbon
Dear Dr. Drysdale,
In response to your query to Henri Bourbon concerning poils aux pattes (pap):
pap is a previously undescribed gene isolated as a P insertion mutation.
The original insertion is named papEP1. All other alleles were by
imprecise excision, and we have quite a few of those. The original allele
behaves as a null allele or nearly (provided that those excisions that
delete the putative ATG delete the true ATG and represent true nulls). I am
not sure the names of these alleles will be helpful, but please tell me if
I am wrong...
The cytological localization of the P insertion on polytenes is at 78A. The
low recombination frequency with Ki supports this localization.
Don't hesitate to let me know if you need additional information.
With best regards,
David
