Subject: FlyBase query: ARDC40 - 860A
Dear Dr. Camonis,
I am curating the addendum book to the 40th Annual Drosophila Research
Conference which was just held in Seattle. In your abstract:
'Searching the Ral GTPase function through two-hybrid and genetics.'
you describe two genes which are new to FlyBase:
1. dRGL
Do you have a map location for dRGL? It is nice if we can keep as many
gene records as possible anchored to the map.
2. dRal
As far as I know, dRal is new to FlyBase, although there is a 'Rala'
(Ras-related protein) gene already in FlyBase. This is in the EMBL
sequence database under accession number U23800.
Is dRal the same as Rala ? If dRal is not the same as Rala, do you
have a map location for dRal?
I look forward to hearing from you,
Gillian

Dear Gillian
>1. dRGL
This guy was located in 70C2-5, in a collaborative study with us by
Christian Biemont, CNRS, Villeurbanne, France.

No, you are right, this 'dRal' is what is called 'Rala' but it isn't clear
that is more RalA than RalB.
It is located at 3E, on the X
There are two mistakes in the sequence that I found originally (2 years
ago) in Genbank, that change two amino acids. But the sequence found in the
EST section of BDGP is correct.
Don't hesitate if I am not clear or if you want to know more.
